Whether you need to apply makeup to your lips for a night event, important family function, for office use or for a special weekend trip, there are two items that instantly come to our mind. One is lipstick and the other one is lip gloss.

Lipstick and lip gloss are cosmetic products that are applied on the lips. Both these cosmetic products are used by females from across the globe to enhance their look and make them look very attractive.

Gloss and lipstick

But before you decide as whether to use a lipstick or a lip gloss you must be aware of the differences between both these products.

Some of the basic differences are:

Texture:

Lipsticks are available in the market in various textures. Most of the lipsticks have a thick, creamy and heavier texture. On the other hand, a lip gloss has a light-weight texture and is bit slippery in nature. Both lipstick and lip gloss can be moisturizing, but a gloss will keep your lips more moist. Both will give a shiny look to your lips, but it is a lip gloss that will give a better shine and wet look to your lips as compared to a lipstick.

Wear:

Most of the lipsticks are known for providing a denser and richer color, which can last for a long duration of time. On the other hand as lip glosses are slippery and lighter in weight they do not stay on the lips for a longer period of time. As lip glosses have the tendency to wear off instantly it should be reapplied regularly.

Coverage:

Due to the difference in texture, a lipstick will give a fuller coverage to the lips as compared to a lip gloss. But a lip gloss will be sheerer than a lipstick. This is why those you wish to hide the discoloration of their lips prefer to use a lipstick.

Dryness:

A lipstick tends to make your lips dry while lip gloss will make your lips moist and less dry. Due to this, regular application of lipstick can make your lips crack while this is not going to happen when you use a lip gloss.

Finishes:

Both lipstick and lip gloss are available in different variations. Lipstick usually has richer color pigment and comes in all sorts of finishes, such as matt, creamy and frosted. On the other hand, a lip gloss is not as richly colored as a lipstick. Some of the main lip gloss variations are sheer and opaque, sparkling, creamy and high shine. Well, in regards to variations there are different options for both lipstick and lip gloss and so it easy to find something that suits you.

Packaging:

Lip gloss come in different forms like tube, pot and wand, which make them easy for the user to carry around in their handbag. On the other hand, a lipstick also comes in various forms like stick, tube, and liquid form. Again when it comes to color, there are many shades available for both lipstick and lip gloss.
