Useful Makeup Tips for Dark Skin

Posted under General

Dark skin is better than the fair skin in medical terms as it is healthier. Due to more pigment, dark skin can withstand the exposure to sunrays and their heat. However, while applying makeup, women with dark skin tone need to be very careful. All types of makeup products will not embrace dark skin tone. Wrong makeup products can make one look washed out or it may show up on darker skin.

Dark skin makeup

By choosing the right colors and shades of makeup products, one can enhance their dark skin tone. Also with the right application, dark skin people can look luminescent and extra beautiful.

Some makeup tips for dark skin:

Coral, deep orange and wine blush colors on the cheeks look the best on dark complexions. Such shades will show through the skin tone, creating a subtle flush on the cheeks. For best results, apply blush to the apples of the cheeks with the help of a high quality blush brush. If the shade of the blush is not showing up on your dark skin tone, then it is recommended to use a crème blush under it to increase the intensity.

Earth tones, neutrals, pinks, wine, and dark burgundy lipstick shades instantly add glam to lips. If you are using a lip liner with your lipstick then it is recommended using one that is close to the shade of your lipstick to avoid a dark outline. Those having dark complexion should avoid pale, frosty lipstick colors as it look unflattering on dark skin. For a glossy look you can apply clear lip gloss on top of your lipstick shade. Gloss in pinks and corals are the best option to choose.

Lip liner:

Those having dark complexion can use lip liner to play with their natural mouth shape. It is better to apply gray or brown lipliner for daily use. To make lips look fuller, use a lip liner to draw just outside the natural shape of your lips. On the other hand to make lips appear less full, use a darker lip liner in a neutral tone to line just inside the natural lip line.

Eye shadow:

While applying eye makeup, it is better to avoid light, powdery and bright colored eye shadow. It is recommended to use eye shadow in dark browns, green, purple, copper, prunes and burgundy shades. Gold eye shadow colors will also look good on dark skin tone but silvery eye shadow must be avoided. Choose an eye shadow of your choice and dust it over your eyelid with an appropriate makeup brush. You can blend a dark eye shadow color into your crease to create a smoky eye look.

To enhance dark skin tone, use a foundation that is lightweight in texture with a high pigment concentration. At the same time avoid using heavy-texture foundations, as dark skin tends to be oiler in nature.  When buying a foundation opt for a shade that is close to your skin tone. According to beauty experts, liquid and cream foundation work best for dark skin.  When applying foundation make sure to blend it properly to avoid any uneven tone.

If there is the need to correct any discoloration of skin or hide some of your facial faults, then it is recommended to use an orange or red-based concealer to neutralize the darkness. After using the concealer do not forget to set it lightly with powder. Finally, use a concealer that matches your skin tone and blend it properly.

Some more tips:

  • Put on daily moisturizer before you put on makeup.
  • Avoid makeup that is too light, as it can make skin look chalky.
  • When grooming brows, use a pencil or powder in a dark brown.
  • Black or dark brown mascara is the best choice for those having dark skin tone.
  • Lastly, if you have dark skin, less the makeup, better it is.

To sum up, those having dark skin tone should show off their best traits with the above mentioned tips and suggestions.
